What’s a song lyric that has stuck with you forever?

So, yesterday I had to choose what my favorite quote is… and now I have to pick a lyric? Okay, an impossible task. Music has been at the core of every chapter of my life, from a young boy in love for the first time, to a man lost in anxiety and regret.

I feel, much like I do with quotes, each and every day there are quotes and lyrics that can quickly become more apparent than the day before.

Tonight I am sad. So tonight my lyrics will be sad.

Tomorrow I am joyful. So tomorrow my lyrics will be joyful.

So instead of wrestling over my favorite lyric, I’ll just list a load that mean somwthing to me.

The Lyrics

“Cause love asks for nothing, But love costs everything” – Nick Cave, Cinnamon Horses

“Sometimes there’s things a man cannot know. The gears won’t turn and the leaves won’t grow. There’s no place to run and no gasoline. Engine won’t turn and the train won’t leave” – Jose Gonzalez, Stay Alive

“I had all and then most of you, some and now none of you. Take me back to the night we met. I don’t know what I’m supposed to do, haunted by the ghost of you. Oh, take me back to the night we met” – Lord Huron, The Night We Met

“You went left, and I went right. As the moon hung proud and white. You would have loved it here tonight” – Mumford and Sons, Home

“You taught me the courage of stars before you left. How light carries on endlessly, even after death. With shortness of breath. You explained the infinite. And how rare and beautiful it is to even exist” – Sleeping at last, Saturn

“Now those memories come back to haunt me. They haunt me like a curse. Is a dream a lie if it don’t come true. Or is it something worse?” – Bruce Springsteen, The River

“Did they get you to trade your heroes for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees, hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change? Did you exchange
A walk-on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?” – Pink Floyd, Wish you were here

Come mothers and fathers. Throughout the land. And don’t criticize. What you can’t understand. Your sons and your daughters. Are beyond your command” – Bob Dylan, The Times are A-Changing
