Fuck the Taliban, Save Afghanistan…
Preparing for a marathon is never easy, and this marathon will have doubt the organising. Not only am I running a marathon, I am also looking to find a way to streamline the finances to the people involved. I also want to make this go as viral as possible, using advertisements, t-shirts, QR code stickers, local money pots, and marketing to promote this project as much as possible.
So far this month, I have began to build up my running legs again after year(s) of rest and fattening. I plan on continuing small healthy runs for the next two months before venturing into anything over 5k. Why? Well, unlike my former, younger self, running is no longer something I can jump into without hesitation. 5k’s for the first two months are reasonable and obtainable, anything more could promote injury and therefore heighten the chances of failure and injury.
Additionally, unlike pervious marathons and challenges, I am attempting to secure a healthy, moderate, weight and calisthenics workout routine. While I do not enjoy this part of training, it is essential for training for long distance running and overall fitness. I have always neglected this due to my preferences, and in turn, learnt the hard way. This month I have achieved a 3x a week training routine that focuses on my core and other areas of muscle building.
I need to be careful this time around. I am over 30, and have sustained enough injuries over the years to prevent this achievement from being possible. Slow, steady, but with conviction and purpose.
To do list for next month: October
| Continue with 5k’s | Establish a baseline pace, continuity and discipline |
| Continue with Core exercise | Work on performance and strengthening core |
| Create a aesthetic and market symbol | Find time to create a aesthetic for the charity, this includes a name, symbol and styling for the equipment I will wear. |
| Start to formulate social media, and a go-fund-me | Create a new Instagram page, and a go-fund-me for the charity event. This should not go live until I have established when and where the marathon will take place. |
| Continue to write, promote and engage in conversation with the girls I interviewed | Establish contact details, stories and other resources that will help allow me to promote the hardships of those involved. Each week once the marathon is established, I want to write a full document about one of the girls I interviewed. |
| Look for Media promotion | Radio shows, newspapers, TV interviews and Podcasts. |
| Establish how the charity will work. | Perhaps the hardest part of this will be establishing how the money will go directly to the refugee’s involved. By passing the pockets of middle men and organisations that want a ‘cut’ of the fundraised money. |
| Monthly blogging | Keep Uncharted Thought’s, the dedicated Instagram and any other outlets up-to-date with my progress and training routines. I am also looking to attach my Strava to these to help visualise my training pattern |
| Drink water, eat clean, live happy. | Eating, drinking water and living clean is also a priority for this venture. While I have quit smoking, and my drinking is at a minimum, I still need to work on my nutrition. |
| Remember to live. | It is hard to life a normal life while indulging in these activities. While at University, and with other projects, I often become obsessed and overly dedicated to it and forget about my friends, family, and often myself. While I will dedicate a lot of time and effort to this, I do NOT want to jeopardise my home life. |
I will check in again mid October, for now, fair thee well.
