I want to write something original, something epic in scale and in depth. Something like Dune, or The Lord of the Rings. Something timeless in teaching and a legendary story of evil, good, and a warning to the future.

To be honest, I got a lot of work to do in regards to grammar, spelling and story telling to get that far, but should I want to, I often wonder if its even possible.

Has everything been written? Not in regards to every story been told, of course I could write another fantasy epic, or Sci-Fi giant, but could I write something truly original?

Dragons, done. Sandworms, done. Magical Wizards, done. Legendary cosmic horrors, done.

You could argue that there hasn’t been an ‘original’ story since the days of The Iliad, or from The Odyssey’. That this very story of adventure, monsters and hero’s, encompasses all the stories we know and love today.

Was Homer the genius that not only created story telling, but completed it?

Of course I am ignorant to other stories and compiled tales. I know The Odyssey is considered the foundation of Western literature, but there are other tales from the East and Africa that I am sure predate Homer by a millennia. I am just using this as an example.

I’ve spoken at length about the destruction of Western society, about how we have hit a strange, uncertain ceiling. Most of the time when I rant about this collapse, I talk about politics, global institutions and religion… I don’t think I’ve touched on our spiritual and cultural death.

Maybe, I don’t know what I am talking about, and there are legendary books and stories being told every day, but with the collapse of film, and Hollywood, I feel originality, creativity and storytelling is at a all-time low.
