Rage baiting audiences; Advertising Magnum opus.

I, like so many of us, am a passionate film watcher. I love a good flick. Sitting down in a leather recliner cinema chair, the smell of hot popcorn and sugar filled drinks filling the air, awaiting to be transported to another life.

It is escapism at its purest form. A way to leave the troubles and worries of this world, and cast ourselves into another.

Recently, I got caught in the rage baiting producer entrapment. A whirlwind community of cinephiles that comment under new movie trailers as if shouting at the producers and directors directly. As if Christopher Nolan himself would read the comments and change his mind.

It is sad, that such as sickening money grabbing scheme has infiltrated the arts. That the tactics of modern politics has managed to destroy the potential for greatness among Hollywood’s greatest directors and story tellers, but it is no longer worth the stress of complaining.

Casting a Black professor Snape is a lazy, cheap way of advertising. It isn’t about inclusion, or representation. It is about selling tickets. It is about provoking an audience, and keeping at the top of google searches.

It destroys art for cash.

I refuse to take part in this game. I will watch a trailer, see a advertising plant, and simply not watch the film.

The more we complain and fall into the trap of controversy. The longer we have to put up with it.

I don’t need to agree with a Black Snape for me to not be a racist. I don’t need to agree with the King of England being Black, gay, man in a wheelchair to call myself a Liberal. It’s not a game worth our time.
