What is one way you have grown this year?

Last year was the most difficult year of my life. While I am proud of the work I achieved, both academically, and in regards to my journalistic work, the feeling of anxiety, and confusion has yet to settle.

Four major events last year psychologically changed my outlook on life, and prevented me from growing:

1. Interviewing Afghan refugees in Pakistan, witnessing first hand the result of Islamic Totalitarianism and Theocracy. Listening to the harrowing stories of women who have been subjugated to torture, rape and unbearable oppression.
2. Going undercover and exposing a Neo-Nazi group in Manchester, while also being discovered by them and threatened by members of the group.
3. Creating a documentary the political battle within the United Kingdom. Interviewing people at the Tommy Robinson rallies (on both sides), and diving into the sadistic and depressing reality of the UK’s future.
4. A close friend of mine was arrested for a heinous crime.

Now that the earth quake has settled, and I’ve taken myself away from its eye, I’ve realised I lost myself in all the madness.

It’s hard to grow when the world around you is shaking with anger and injustice. Growth comes from hard times, that much I agree, but there needs to be a solid foundation for one to grasp onto.

My political outlook has always been liberal, my beliefs are founded in humanism, with high criticism in organised bodies. It’s hard to continue believing in these ideas when all I saw was evil deeds.

I plan on grounding myself this year, so that I can grow again.
