Religion is flawed, because man is flawed.

Here we go again, tackling another massive topic on a Sunday morning.

I don’t expect you to read this and come to any new conclusion about religion. You should be well aware that I have not figured out the age old question on if there is a God in bed this morning with a bagel in hand.

However, I have been thinking. Is religion flawed by our own interpretation of the texts supplied by its leaders.

Philosophy.

I am an agnostic. I believe there could be a higher power, however I am not sure what that higher power is, more than likely however, there probably isn’t a higher power.

I believe however in spirituality. Not so much in the hippy way or dreadlocks and beads and smelling like body odour in a field smoking weed and looking rather feral. No I think spirituality is something more than that. It’s about your connection to the universe. Be it through Christ or through thought and peace of mind

I would argue that although some may find peace in a sacred building, I find mine in the great outdoors, alone. I feel connected, sad, happy, melancholic and beyond joy in a place of beauty.

My philosophy in life has always been ‘if you cant see, feel or hear it, then it isn’t real’. Hence the reason I do not believe in ghosts, or extra terrestrial beings visiting planet earth in hovercrafts. However in recent month this has changed. I have found myself more connected to the world spiritually. I find peace in nature and in quite places. I find that laughter, joy and happiness is a tool to tackle its opposites.

Also, I have began to read the bible again.

Religion is flawed.

The bible is something I have always wanted to read in its entirety. To get a true grasp on the religion that has been the backbone of the western culture I have grown up in. Of course I have a overall understanding of the religion and the tales within its pages, but I think it is a responsibility as a member of a Christian nation to understand it in more depth.

Although, I have an issue with the bible and that issue is simple, It’s man made. It was constructed by man and selected by man. Not only men, but the Catholic church no less. A powerful institute that has not only allowed the crimes of countless decades but also holds the minds of billions.

I can not believe that a God, that is all powerful and all knowing can allow his words to be misinterpreted or selectively chosen by a group of old men that have little to no understanding of the realities of life.

This goes for all religion. I struggle to believe than man can even comprehend the interpretation of a God like being. So, why do we choose to follow these false idols into wars, into crimes against humanity and into the hells they threaten us with.

I have been to the Vatican City on multiple occasions, I have been inside Mosques in Dubai, to the temples of Buddhists and to synagogues in England. I have seen the wonders that these institutes build, yet I have also seen the horrors they have inflicted on their fellow man. Am I to believe that these large instituted that preach peace and love to our fellow man can build wonders beyond our imagining yet not abide by the laws of their own preaching?

The texts of the Bible, the Tora and the Quran preach the word of the almighty. Yet it was written by man. Religion is flawed, because man is flawed.

He said, she said.

I have always had an issue with blind belief, and I suppose that is why I have such an issue with religion. I believe in love, in kindness and in respect and most, if not all the Human Rights we possess under the United Nations. Why though do we have to incorporate this into a deity? Why must these words and messages come from a almighty, or for an almighty that presents itself through a man made construct such as religion.

We continue to kill in the name of prophets and God(s) that we have no proof of. While religions also preach the idea of spirituality outside of their religions sinful and blasphemy. Jewish, Muslim, Christian, Buddhist, Hindus all preach that their version of peace is correct while others are worthy of death.

How long will this go on for? Even now, in the 21st century murder for deities continue.

Will we ever change.
