The Secrets of Scotland, an Uncharted Campaign.

Every year I try to commit some time and energy into campaigns, no not Dungeons and Dragons campaigns, although I would love to once again delve into the world of magic and fantasy. These campaigns are more factual that fantasy, and more suggestion than magic.

This year we at Uncharted Thoughts have decided to commit to two separate campaigns. Although we have yet to decide on the second, we thought we’d utilise the time we have based in the West Highlands to create a unique campaign on this ancient, proud, historic landscape.

A campaign designed to help travellers, and adventurers learn more about this proud nation, and to help prepare yourself for a great adventure.

So the mission is simple, produce a months worth of content focused on a niche subject in an attempt to drive traffic towards Uncharted Thoughts, and establish a larger following. This in turn will help me work on travel writing, adventure writing and to use as proof of work for future endeavours…. The Uncharted Thoughts travel books.

Lets go through the Who, What, How, When and Why, of this campaign.

  1. Who will this be tailored towards? Travellers, hikers, climbers, Pub lovers, food eaters, first timers and returners. This is by all means another attempt at the travel campaign I did for Kathmandu (Here).Only this time I am writing the articles as I experience them, rather than five years after the fact. I plan to publish a vast array of travel documents that can help visitors from across the world enjoy Scotland and all it’s secrets.
  2. What will be produced in this campaign? This comes with the tactic of why? To understand what will be produced, you really have to understand why people come to Scotland. Whiskey, Wildlife, Hiking, Climbing, Mountains, Culture, Bagpipes, History, Filming locations, and some would say food, though I would argue against this motive. According to Visit Scotland, 70% of people visit for the scenery and landscape.
  3. How can you read this? Simple, subscribe to Uncharted Thoughts and receive the daily campaign updates, you can do this by filling out the ‘Subscribe’ banner at the top or bottom of this page with your email address. Or regularly check the website for updates. However, Subscribing is a far easier method, both for notifications and for me to personally send the links to your email.
  4. When will this campaign begin? Well, I am already in the midst of writing some of the content. However, a campaign such as this needs a lot of work. Going to locations, hiking the trails, taking photos, writing and rewriting… so The campaign will begin on the 1st of April, and will finish on the 30th. I have yet to decide how much content will be produced in this time, I think a minimum of four articles a week will be sufficient.
  5. Why do a campaign? Well, it’s simple. As a traveller, I have always struggled to find blogs, or websites with vast array of information, that is accurate and entertaining to read. A lot of the time the information feels, dethatched from the writer. That, like me last year with the Kathmandu travel advice section, the writer is either publishing the articles months, if not years after the experience, or perhaps the experience was not theirs to begin with. It also aims to help improve my writing, to create quality content and to build up a community and increase viewership.

It should be noted, these articles will include the ‘off the beaten track’ content as well as the more popular parts of Scotland already heavily advertised.

As a avid explorer and hiker, I feel there isn’t enough content regarding treks that aren’t the west highland way, or the hidden glen. More enthesis needs to be put on other parts of this remarkable country, that are not imprinted with the boots of one thousand tourists a week.

So, if you are taking a trip to Scotland, or perhaps have always wanted to go but have never have a chance to truly sit down and plan a trip. Subscribe, and wait, for in April there will be a bombardment of Scottish travel advice.
