Yesterdays local elections were a shock to those that have been living under a rock and a new dawn of hope to others.
Reform UK, led by Nigel Farage, took 593 seats, leaving labour and conservatives in the dust.
While it is still three years until the next general election, I think this is just a clear indication of what’s to come.
Prime minister Kier Starmer says “I get it”. When asked about the lose of Runcorn.
But the truth is, I don’t think he does “get it”.
I don’t think anyone in power gets it.
My opinion on Kier has changed dramatically since his election in 2024. At the beginning I was concerned about the way he addressed the riots, to my recollection he never called for calm, or concerned himself with understanding why they were happening. He labelled everyone a far right thug and treated any opposition as just that.
His taxing policy is expected, and I think dramatic for a first legislation. Perhaps it was necessary, but I think his inability to communicate or seem transparent was against him.
Since then, I think he has improved dramatically. The growing pains of power have moulded within the confined of his green seat and he doesn’t look to shabby there.
His audience with Donald Trump and J.D Vance was expected by many, including me, to been poorly received. But, I felt that Kier did a great job handling the orange giant, as he did with his side kick idiot J.D.
I also think the ‘coalition of the willing’ for Ukraine was a massive step forward to UK relations globally, and reminded those that would attack the sovereignty of another nation.
However, domestically and online, Kier is in an ever loosing battle.
I think, the truth of the matter is. No one in the United Kingdom trusts Labour or Conservatives with the future of this country anymore. Its been 100 years of two party ruling and it has led us down a drainpipe.
Don’t get me wrong, its obvious that there have been some really high highs with these governments and they set up a strong foundation which is why the UK hasn’t fallen into complete despair (yet).
But, by the looks of things, the UK is willing to try something new. Willing to take the risk and move right.
I have recently done a deep investigation for Manchester Evening News on Nazis in the Greater Manchester area. Something I will get into a little more on another article soon. See below…
It is my opinion that the failure of the left is the reason for the rights growing power.
