“The best books are those that tell you what you already know” – George Orwell

1984, is one of the greatest novels of all time, in my humble opinion. George Orwell set the scene of a dystopian world where thought and opinions are decided by an all authoritarian state. Where the land is darkened by the lack of belief, dulled by the lack of diverse thinking and blackened by the cloud of authoritarian unelected leadership.
He describes North Korea. Where 2 + 2 = 5 and where the clocks strike 13.
Of course, it is fun to read these books. To be able to force our minds into a world where these poor, well crafted characters are suffering the cages of beastly rule. To cast our minds across the seas and mountains of this planet and think about our poor brothers and sisters living in China, North Korea, Iran and Afghanistan. To imagine how it must be to live a lie. To spend this short time we have on this planet locked in a dream-world of someone else’s creation.
Thank our ancestors we are able to put this books down and lay our heads down on our pillows and wake up in a clear, lawful society ran by a democracy and go about our daily lives without hinderance.
Right….?

Well, it turns out that George Orwell wasn’t just an author, he’s a prophet. He has predicted the downfall of our society, only he was 40 years out.
Britain, or more accurately, the Labour party and it’s mob of rainbow inclusive gender twisting bully squads have decided that it is now a crime to voice an opinion on social media, if it goes against their opinions.
A 53 year old grandmother was visited by the police last week having criticized the Labour Party and PM Kier Starmer. The grandmother was intimidated by the police presence and commented that “it made me think I best keep quite for the rest of my life”.
Oh, well surely this is a one off right? This is just a mishap, a once in a thousand situation that has no correlation to any other attempt from the police to arrest or detain or question anyone else in this authoritarian clamp down on free speech? WRONG.
According to some sources, which are debated on their reliability. Almost 4000 people have been arrested in the UK last year due to social media posts.
In the riots last year, there were hundreds of arrests made by police linking people to online ‘hate speech’. Some of these arrests led to prison sentences, the longest of which is 30 months.

Obviously freedom of speech should have its limits, however those limits should be down to actual harm. If I were to shout fire in a crowded room and people died in a stampede, then I should face consequences for those actions.
Julie Bindel, a feminist writer and columnist was investigated for a ‘hate crime’ after tweeting about transgenderism. J.K.Rowling has been vastly cancelled due to her belief that trans people should use their own bathrooms and are not real men or woman. Gloria Steinem, another feminist journalist and social activist was harassed and cancelled due to her opinions on trans people and biological gender.
A Christian preacher was threatened with arrest, sometime earlier this year, for a ‘hate crime’.
Of course we are still a long way off from Orwell’s 1984. But, this silencing of opinions, the muting of freedom of speech and a two tier policy towards what is right and what is wrong is a steep and slippery slop that can pick up traction faster than most social and political movements.
The LGBTQI+ inclusivity mob is something I have never supported. For the same reason I don’t like organised religion. It is corrosive and make normal people do outrageous things. I praise the ability to practise free without harm or harassment, the sexuality you have. I also praise that you can practice your religion without hinderance and or harassment, as long as it is within the code of human rights and under the law of the country you live in. That’s does not mean I support LGBTQI+ or the Catholic church. And that’s me practising my freedom of speech and freedom of expression, something I should be able to do without harassment or hinderance.
I guess, this is the libertarian in me, the school boy who hated authority and lacked trust in anyone who has it.
So, where can this lead us? To an authoritarian dictatorship? No, probably not. Instead, it will lead us into the hands of the right, into fascism and into the hands of leaders that will ‘correct’ the course the left has led us towards. The lefts greatest failure is its lack of common sense.
